Los musicales "An American in Paris" y "Fun Home" recibieron 12 nominaciones cada uno a los Premios Tony el martes, mostrando dos lados muy distintos de esta temporada de Broadway.

El primero, una adaptación de la película musical de 1951 con coreografía de Gene Kelly, es alegre. El segundo, basado en la novela gráfica de Alison Bechdel sobre su relación con su padre suicida, es emotivo y oscuro.

Michael Cerveris recibió una de las 12 candidaturas de "Fun Home", a mejor actor en un musical, y espera que esto atraiga más gente a ver el espectáculo.

"El verdadero valor de los Tony, y supongo que de cualquier premio, es llamar la atención a algo que de otro modo la gente no vería. Así que el hecho de que cada aspecto de la producción haya sido reconocido es el mejor tipo de publicidad", expresó Cerveris.

Los nominados van de Sydney Lucas, de 11 años, por "Fun Home", a Chita Rivera, de 82, que busca su tercer Tony con "The Visit". Helen Mirren y Bradley Cooper también fueron postulados, pero Matthew Morrison, de "Glee", no recibió ninguna mención a su regreso a Broadway.

La categoría de mejor obra nueva incluye a "Wolf Hall, Parts One & Two", "Hand to God", "Disgraced" y "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time", "Fish in the Dark" de Larry David fue completamente desairada.

Además de "An American in Paris" y "Fun Home", figuran en el rubro de mejor musical nuevo "Something Rotten!" y "The Visit". La puesta con tema de Peter Pan "Finding Neverland", la primera de Harvey Weinstein como productor principal en Broadway, no recibió una sola candidatura.

A los británicos les fue bien. Puestas de "Wolf Hall Parts One & Two", "The Audience", "The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-Time" y "Skylight" lograron 24 nominaciones. "The Last Ship" de Sting le mereció al rockero una mención a mejor música original.

Las nominaciones fueron anunciadas en un evento televisado presentado por Mary-Louise Parker y Bruce Willis. Los Tony se entregarán el 7 de junio en el Radio City Music Hall.

Por el premio a la mejor actriz en un musical compiten Kristin Chenoweth por "On the Twentieth Century", Kelli O'Hara por "The King and I", Chita Rivera por "The Visit", Leanne Cope por "An American in Paris" y Beth Malone por "Fun Home".

El premio al mejor actor en un musical se disputará entre Brian d'Arcy James por "Something Rotten!", Michael Cerveris por "Fun Home", Ken Watanabe por "The King and I", Tony Yazbeck por "On the Town" y Robert Fairchild por "An American in Paris".

Los nominados a mejor actor en una obra incluyen a Bradley Cooper por "The Elephant Man", Ben Miles por "Wolf Hall, Parts One & Two", Alex Sharp por "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time", Steven Boyer por "Hand to God" y Bill Nighy for "Skylight".

Las cinco candidatas a mejor acrtiz en una obra son: Carey Mulligan por "Skylight", Helen Mirren por "The Audience", Ruth Wilson por "Constellations", Geneva Carr por "Hand to God" y Elisabeth Moss por "The Heidi Chronicles".

Mirren fue nominada por su interpretación de la reina Isabel II en "The Audience, que imagina las reuniones privadas semanales entre la monarca y ocho primeros ministros británicos a lo largo de seis décadas de reinado.
